Nicole St. Pierre — Silk scarves, Felted hats
|
|
Nicole St-Pierre is a studio artist, who creates scarves and garments, with her hand-dyed shibori fabrics. Lately, she is also hand-knitting and felting wool hats. She has a MFA degree, in Textile Design, from UMass Dartmouth. She has taught many workshops, at NISDA on Nantucket, Horizons, Snow Farm, Peters Valley's School of Crafts in New Jersey, the Community College of Rhode Island, UMass Dartmouth, Cape Cod Community College, and in France with Horizons To Go. Her work is represented in several galleries: The Society of Arts and Crafts in Boston, Fire Opal in Brookline and Jamaica Plain, Rogers Gallery in Mattapoisett, Woods Hole Handworks, and Skera in Northhampton, among others. Nature and architecture are my primary sources of inspiration. In my studio, I create patterned fabrics using the traditional Japanese technique of shibori. I stitch, tie, fold and clamp the fabric before hand dyeing, to produce colorful textures, geometrical and natural patterns. The patterns, colors, and textures I like to create are reminiscent of flowers, leaves, trees, the moon, sunsets, etc. They are visual poems. The pieces shown here are hand-knitted and felted hats, and hand-dyed shibori scarves. |
