Louise Bishop — Handmade lampwork glass beads and one of a kind jewelry

I am a New Bedford native who has been making jewelry since I was 3 years old. In the early 60's as a young teen I would take the bus to Boston to visit the bead district. It was from these trips I developed a real appreciation for the beauty and color of glass beads. On my trips I would purchase glass beads to make earrings to sell to friends. I began selling my work under the name of Bishop's Beads in 1999, a name coined by a man of God.

It was also in 1999 I learned that I could make my own glass beads. There has been no looking back!

I have been fortunate enough to have had instruction by many of the great beadmakers of our time, Kate Fowle, Loren Stump, Jim Smirsch, Leah Fairbanks to name just a few. I have been a member of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers (ISGB) since 2000 and attended Gatherings in Alexandra, Lowell, Portland, and Louisville.

My inspiration comes from the things I see around me everyday. I love to make objects that look like the real thing, olives, strawberries, candy corn. My newest interest is large beads I call "Little Works of Art".

I began selling my lampwork beads in 2002. On occasion I sell beads on ebay. I was attempting to corner the Pandora market but I cannot match those third world prices. I do work on commission for weddings and baby showers or other special events. I have also done birthday parties in my studio. Some of my work is available in the fast ferry terminal at the State Pier in New Bedford.

Currently I share a studio in the Wamsutta Mills building with two other glass artists.
